Ile de Saona
Saona Island is located off the southeastern tip of the Dominican Republic. Part of the Este National Park, it is known for its mangroves, coral reefs and palm-fringed beaches, such as Palmilla Beach. The island's shallow waters are home to starfish.
Cueva del Puente
Visit a cave in the heart of the Este National Park and contemplate the centuries-old paintings left on its walls by the indigenous Taino people.
Cueva de Chicho II
Cueva del Chicho is one of the most remarkable underground caves, nestled in Cotubanamá National Park. Its sparkling fresh water attracts many walkers, but it also contains a multitude of petroglyphs - evidence of the Taino presence in this area. You can bathe in its fresh azure water.
Altos de Chavon
Carved entirely from stone, Altos de Chavón - a replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village - sits 90 metres above the Chavón River. Built in six years, the village opened in 1982 with Frank Sinatra performing live in the Greek-style amphitheatre. Today, the village is a delightful place to visit for its charming medieval feel and architecture. Its centerpiece, the Church of St. Stanislaus, is a popular venue for weddings in the Dominican Republic, with its breathtaking views of the river used to film classic movies like Rambo 2, Anaconda, and King Kong.
