Atlantic Princess is the newest wreck for divers to enjoy in Bayahibe area, just in front of Dreams La Romana resort. It is an old passenger liner, 30 ft / 9 m high and 99 ft / 30 m long, that was sunk in May 2009. It is a great wreck even for new divers, the maximum depth is 39 ft / 12 m. But because of the shallow depth, the Atlantic Princess got damaged by storms in the past few years, destroying the top of the wreck completely. The wavy seas during the hurricane season 2016 made the wreck even more unsafe to penetrate, lots of parts are loose and dangerous for divers to go in. It is still a great dive to see the wreck from the outside, also the reef around is very interesting with plenty of fish, nudibranch, blenny, seahorses and other marine species.

Coco Reef is located about 1/3 of a mile / 500 m from the shore of the Catalonia Resort, the depth is 39ft / 12 m. It is a very diversified dive site, beside various colorful fish and corals, you can also visit a “Coral Garden”. It is a project started FUNDEMAR (an organization protecting marine life) and as the name suggests, it is re-growing new corals and re-planting them very successfully in Bayahibe area. Of course it’s supported by many local dive shops. When you dive there, you can see how they grow the new corals, the ropes and tables where the corals are reproduced very quickly. A great program to get our underwater world into even a better shape than it is now.

St George Wreck is one of the most beautiful wrecks in the Caribbean. Built in 1962 in Scotland, the 262 ft / 80 m long ship was used as a freighter to transport grain and flour between Norway and America. After 20 years of service the ship ended up in the port of Santo Domingo and in 1999 was sunk about a half mile / 800 meters from the Viva Resort in Dominicus. The original name was different, but before sinking it, they named the wreck St George after the hurricane George, that hit the Caribbean the year before (1998). Every dive on this wreck is a special dive. Many beautiful corals has grown on the wreck over the years, you can watch many school of fish going through each other, never mixing together. Because the wreck is deep, you have to be an Advanced Open Water Diver to visit this dive site, the maximum depth is 144 ft / 44 m. If you are not certified advanced diver yet, why don’t you take the AOWD course with us?
